Dealing with Difficult and Challenging Family Members (Enduring)
All professionals have encountered patients' families and caregivers that have been difficult to please despite our best efforts. Join us for this frank discussion on why some caregivers are more difficult to work with than others and how to identify them early on. Learn about the different types of difficult and challenging clients, families and caregivers. This seminar will also focus on how to maintain your sanity while achieving the best possible therapeutic outcomes in these cases.
This course is suitable for both beginning and intermediate levels. There is an introduction to understanding clients and families and an overview which is necessary and appropriate for beginners. It also applies to intermediate levels expands upon the introductory level, focusing on different reasons and strategies for interacting with difficult and challenging patients and families.
Stephanie Goldstein
Stephanie Goldstein, BSW, LBSW, has been in healthcare for more than 15 years. Her experience includes both working directly with patients and as a manager in mental health and long term care. She is passionate about educating patients and families on options while promoting self-determination for those with complex physical, cognitive or mental health diagnoses. A frequent guest lecturer for Johns Hopkins University’s Certificate on Aging program, she also loves teaching professionals about best practices in working with older generations.
