Description

Depression is quite common as people age, although not always explored or addressed. Due to multiple medical complications, numerous losses, change in lifestyle and financial constraints, many emotions arise, and symptoms of depression are more prevalent. In addition, our elderly clients are in the stage of Ego Integrity vs. Despair and are experiencing a life review. Therefore, when working with the elderly, a clinician may have to address experiences such as childhood traumas, difficult life events and even both death and suicidal ideations. This webinar will focus on depression in the elderly, what this diagnosis can mean for your client and how clinicians can assess and support an individual in the later stages of life.

This content is suitable for both beginning and intermediate levels.  There is an introduction to depression, which is necessary and appropriate for beginners.  It also applies to intermediate levels as it expands upon the introductory level, focusing signs/symptoms of depression in senior as well as discusses strategies and interventions to help manage this debilitating illness.
