Description
Communication is the foundation of a healthy working relationship. We need to know our clients in order to develop this relationship and build trust. This interactive program will allow participants to understand why communicating with older adults is different from communicating with younger adults. There are several aging processes that can interfere with communication. Participants will work on positive communication responses and gain he essential skills for successful communication with older adults.
This course is suitable for both beginning and intermediate levels. There is an introduction to communication techniques which is necessary and appropriate for beginners. It also applies to intermediate levels as it expands upon the introductory level, focusing on the differences in communication with senior and their younger counterparts and the impact it can have on a therapeutic relationship.
Jenerations Health Education, #1494, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. Statue and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for 1 continuing education credit. Mary is a Registered Nurse board certified in gerontology with more than 30 years experience in the geriatric health field. She has been a consultant to families, businesses, and care facilities as well as a successful caregiver advice columnist. She was a consultant for many years to the Anne Arundel County, MD Department of Aging and Disabilities, and a caregiver support group facilitator for 17 years. Mary is currently an associate speaker with Jenerations Health Education, Inc. speaking extensively on subjects related to dementia care, eldercare, caregiver issues, and successful aging.
