Description

Professionals and family members consistently struggle with supporting seniors who neglect themselves.  In fact, self-neglect is the most frequently reported type of elder mistreatment.  When is it appropriate to intervene?   This ethics program focuses on preserving the dignity and worth of self-neglecting older adults while protecting their well-being.  An extensive review of several healthcare Codes of Ethics are included and are particularly focused on dealing with patients with dementia and other illnesses that limit ability to make decisions.

This content is suitable for both beginning and intermediate levels.  There is an introduction to reviewing various issues associated with self-neglect which is necessary and appropriate for beginners.  It also applies to intermediate levels as it expands upon the introductory level, focusing on the ethical dilemmas that arise and how to best work to manage these situations.
