Description

Quarantine is the "separation and restriction of movement of people who have potentially been exposed to a contagious disease to ascertain if they become unwell, so reducing the risk of them infecting others." In the midst of this mass hysteria, both personally and professionally, we need to focus on the effects this quarantine has on our residents/clients. From a psychosocial and mental health perspective, there are serious concerns. While trying to maintain some sense of normality, everyone is working hard to keep their head above water. Yet, it is still essential to assess the senior’s mental health status as they experience separation from loved ones, the loss of freedom, uncertainty over disease status, and boredom, all which can create dramatic effects. This webinar will allow participants to take some time to process what it must be like for our residents/clients to deal with this pandemic and how to develop an individualized care plan.

This course is suitable for both beginning and intermediate levels.  There is an introduction to the concept mental health issues among the older adult population.  It also applies to intermediate levels as it expands upon the introductory level, focusing on the role of the professional as educator and support to those helping this population.
