Covid-19 is here to stay. So are the flu and a host of other pathogens. What if your clients and patients are still not comfortable engaging in life? How do you help them navigate risk after the past several years of public health agencies’ mixed messages and an emphasis on an abundance of caution?

Stephanie Goldstein, BSW, LBSW, has been in healthcare for more than 15 years.  Her experience includes both working directly with patients and as a manager in mental health and long term care. She is passionate about educating patients and families on options while promoting self-determination for those with complex physical, cognitive or mental health diagnoses.  A frequent guest lecturer for Johns Hopkins University’s Certificate on Aging program, she also loves teaching professionals about best practices in working with older generations.

  1. Discuss why risk/reward conversations are crucial for helping clients and patients balance all aspects of health and mental health
  2. Analyze the risks of prioritizing the avoidance of Covid-19 above all other health and mental health concerns
  3. Identify areas for potential countertransference when working with clients and patients who have different risk tolerance levels
  4. Examine ways to help clients, patients and caregivers reconsider their risk tolerance levels

Agenda:

45 minutes: What were/are the impacts sustained from Covid 19?

45 minutes: What changes were experienced from a practice and policy standpoint and what was the impact?

15 minutes: Break

45 minutes: What are we avoiding and what is the potential impact on mental health?

45 minutes: What role does countertransference play in helping to work effectively with varying risk tolerance levels
